Volunteering at the soup kitchen

Guest post written by Branch Steihm

Every Sunday night a couple of my friends from the senior center and I like to go to volunteer at a soup kitchen that’s around the block from the center.

Some of the regulars have started recognizing us and after we’re finished serving we like to sit around and chat with them too. But that’s been a little of a problem recently because I’ve been having trouble hearing their sides of the conversations.

A few Sundays ago, one of the ladies I chat with suggested that I get hearing aides because it seemed like I was having trouble hearing. I realized she was right and searched for hearing aids in Florida the next day. I learned a lot about hearing amplifiers just by reading about them online and am talking to my family about getting some to help me out.

This week I shared that with the same lady and she said that she knows lots of friends who wear them and are really helped out by them. We’ll see if I take the plunge, but right now it looks like I probably will.
