Hank Moody Is My Hero
Posting compliments of Alex Versna
Californication is possibly the greatest show on television. The lead character, Hank Moody, is a novelist who spends more time chasing tail, or trying to win his ex back, than he does any actual writing.
The writers on that show should be commended. They have created such an interesting main character that drives their plots into situations that can only be described as absolutely hilarious. Hank is constantly getting himself into the most awkward of love situations, although they are situations that most men would be jealous to get into regardless of Hank’s usual calamitous outcome.
My favorite episode is still the series pilot. I had seen advertisements for the show, and thought that it looked like it had potential. I set my satellite tv services dvr to record Showtime when it premiered because I’m never home when prime time shows air. Then when I got home, I don’t think I’ve laughed harder than when Hank got punched in the face, for seemingly no reason, while having sex with a woman he picked up at the bookstore. Later we find out that the woman isn’t a woman, but she’s a girl. A 16-year-old girl, who’s the daughter of his ex’s new fiancĂ©. Then I laughed even harder. It just doesn’t get any more uncomfortable for a man, and that’s why I can’t stop watching the show.
