The Various Fan Groups
This was written by guest blogger Joanna Danley
Probably my favorite thing about watching the world cup is to view the various fan groups from around the world. It is easy to catch games with satellite deals because there are different feeds from countries, all focused on their team or surrounding areas. Because this is a world wide phenomenon, fans are coming from every corner of the globe to cheer on their side. There is flag waving and dressing in the country colors for the small pocket of fans representing a specific portion of the globe.
The fans from Europe are different from the fans of South America for example. Despite the fact that both continents field strong teams from several countries, there is still a fair amount of fanatics that only see the game in one viewpoint. This doesn’t mean they are wrong, just entertaining to watch. There are chants and singing, sometimes the national anthem, others simply a way to root on their team. Nonetheless, it is fun to check out the stands to see what is happening there.
Outside of the action taking place on the pitch, the stadium seating is what should be focused on. There is almost as much entertainment taking place by the spectators as that of the athletes. It should be noted that many have traveled a long way to be there to root players on.
