A Community Come Together
This is a guest post written by Lacey Bates.
A neighborhood watch is when members of a community come together and patrol the area to make sure that criminal activity is not taking place. My neighborhood watch has become very effective after addressing the issues that plagued it for years. Some men and women signed up for neighborhood watch and then never lived up to their commitments. This created issues with other neighbors who were doing what they were supposed to and had been pitching in.
We called a neighborhood watch meeting with everyone in our association a few years ago. Everyone was able to air their issues and we finally came together to solve our problems. We had one person manage the watch and others would sign up for patrol shifts. If a person is sick, we had alternates in place so that all patrols would be properly covered no matter what. The system has worked well and crime is non-existent in our neighborhood.
I have installed a Nebraska alarm system in my home, with the neighborhood watch also in place I feel very safe leaving my home and being in it late at night. We also installed kick plates, a wooden fence around the perimeter of our home, and bought a new storm door. I like feeling safe and knowing that I have done everything that I can to keep my family safe.
