Health Information

The best way of a nation to protect the health of its citizens is to make sure that they do not get ill in the first place. This can be achieved by giving the awareness of their own ability to look after their own health. For this it requires greater spending on health promotion. Some commentators say that if the money spent on health promotion is more, the less will be spent on hospitals.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa and Asia has led a large number of specialist health education campaigns. These explain how the virus is spread and how to prevent from catching it by way of easily understandable language with images. In the developed world, there were more number of campaigns explaining reducing traffic speeds to avoid death on roads, the health hazards of tobacco products, etc. Many governments use the media in the form of television advertising or leaflets in doctors’ offices to try to follow the healthier way.

However, some media publicizes some famous people who appear very cool drinking a lot of alcohol, smoking and taking drugs. These Celebrities become the role model for the young people sending out an opposing media message. This often encourages young people to make unhealthy choices. The best way of approach is informing the risks fully and letting them to make up their own minds.
